Muldai View Point and Poon Hill Trek is a short trip of eight days that takes you to the two most popular Himalayan viewpoints in the Annapurna Region. Experience fantastic sunrise and sunset views from Poon Hill and Muldai View Point. While Poon Hill has been a hotspot for tourists for many decades, Muldai View Point is an undiscovered gem and lies off the beaten path.
This beautiful trek takes you through charming Gurung and Magar villages tucked beneath the snow-covered Annapurna Range and the Machhapucchre or Fishtail Peak. The trekking route traverses one of the largest rhododendron forests in the world which light up the trail with more than a million blooms during the spring season.
Your trip begins from Kathmandu with a scenic flight to Pokhara, the ‘City of Lakes’. From Pokhara, you board a vehicle and head towards Kimchi, the trailhead of your trek. On reaching Kimchi, you start walking and head to Ghandruk, a heritage village that has preserved Gurung culture and traditions. Leaving Ghandruk, you take a steep ascent to Muldai View Point via Tadapani and Dobato. With your base at Dobato, you hike to the Muldai View Point to catch the sunrise or the sunset, or both.
Situated at a height of 3637 meters above sea level, Muldai Peak or View Point offers a striking 360-degree panorama of more than twenty-two Himalayan mountains, including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, and other giants.
Another highlight of your trek is the sunrise view from Poon Hill. To reach Poon Hill you trek to Ghorepani by crossing one of the largest rhododendron forests in the world. The sunrise view of the Himalayan peaks from Poon Hill is truly spectacular and memorable. This short and sweet trek ends with a quick descent to the village of Hile.

Once you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport our guide will pick you up and drive you to your hotel. Check-in and enjoy a welcome drink. Later in the evening, there will be a trip briefing where you will meet your trekking guide, He will describe the route in brief and fill you in on some details that you should know.
Do your final packing. If you want to rent gear and equipment you can do so from Thamel. The tourist hub has many trekking gear and equipment shops and rental outlets. You can leave your suitcase and stuff that you won't be needing during your trek at the hotel or our office. Make sure to lock your bag or suitcase properly before giving it up for storage.
Overnight in Kathmandu.
Take an early flight to Pokhara. You can enjoy amazing views of some of the highest peaks in the world during your flight. On reaching Pokhara you board a vehicle and head towards Kimchi, the trailhead of your trek. The ride to Kimchi is filled with scenic views of paddy fields and rural settlements. While a good part of the road is pitched and in good condition, the later part of the journey is off-road and bumpy.
Once you reach Kimchi, you take a short hike to Ghandruk, a Gurung Heritage Village. After resting for a while at a local teahouse, you can explore the village which is filled with pretty traditional stone cottages and brightly painted concrete guesthouses. There's a Gurung Cultural Museum which you can visit by paying an entrance fee.

From Ghandruk you head towards Tadapani, a popular stop for trekkers on the Annapurna trail. The trail goes uphill all the way through a thick forest of oak and rhododendron. There are some steep ascents en route that can leave you breathless. The gleaming summits of Annapurna South and Machhapuchre (Fishtail Peak) appear closer as you climb higher. After a hard climb, you finally reach Tadapani.

Leaving Tadapani you make your way toward Dobato. The trail is filled with trees and boulders covered in moss and lichen. There are some steep uphills and downhills with fantastic views of the Annapurna Range. On reaching Dobato you make your way to a local teahouse.
Dobato is a small settlement filled with few houses and a couple of teahouses. Not many trekkers frequent Dobato as it lies farther away from the popular trails. Because of less tourist traffic, the amenities offered at the teahouses in Dobato are quite basic.
Once you reach the teahouse where your guide has booked a room for you, you rest for a while and take some refreshments. If you have the stamina you can hike to Muldai View Point for an inspiring sunset view.

To enjoy the sunrise view you make an early morning hike to the Muldai View Point. Savor a breathtaking sunrise from the top. While Annapurna South. Annapurna I and Fishtail Peak appear quite close you can see other peaks like Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri, Gangapurna, Baraha Shikhar, Lamjung Himal and other giants shining majestically in the golden rays of the early morning sun.
After enjoying the view and taking pictures you descend to Dobato, have your breakfast, and proceed towards Ghorepani. You walk past the ridge of the Muldai Peak and walk through a dense forest of rhododendron. During spring the entire forest looks heavenly filled with pink and red rhododendron blooms.
An up-and-down trail takes you past small brooks and waterfalls and mountainside villages. An ascent up a stone staircase brings you to the settlement of Ghorepani, an ancient pit stop that was once a hub for mule caravans of traders traveling along the Tibet salt trade route.
Ghorepani has many modern guesthouses and old-style teahouses offering modern amenities like rooms with en suite washrooms, hot showers, internet, etc.

Wake up before sunrise and head to Poon Hill which lies right above Ghorepani. Use a head torch to light your way in the dark. Climbing a series of steps you reach the Poon Hill viewpoint. It's a tough ascent to the top but the view is rewarding. It's an amazing experience to see the mountains light up by the first light of the dawn. The snow-covered mountains change color from pink to golden as the sun slowly rises. It's a striking sight, one that you will cherish and remember for a long, long time.
After enjoying the view you walk down to Ghorepani. Have a hearty breakfast before heading down to Hille, where your trek ends. Our vehicle will be waiting for you to drive you to Pokhara. Upon reaching Pokhara you can relax at your hotel. You can spend the evening strolling down the lakeside and experiencing the nightlife.
Overnight in Pokhara.
Return to Kathmandu by flight. It's a short journey of about 25 minutes. During the flight, you can savor views of the Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Langtang Range, and many more snow-covered giants.
After reaching Kathmandu you will be driven to your hotel. You can spend the rest of the day relaxing at your hotel or walk around Thamel and shop for souvenirs. You fill find plenty of shops selling handicraft items, local honey, organic tea and coffee, clothes, etc.

Your trip ends here and it is time to bid goodbye to Kathmandu. One of our guides will drop you at the international airport, at least three hours before your scheduled departure.
