Peak Climbing in Nepal

Nepal is truly a mountaineer's paradise as it hosts a majority of Eight-Thousandars including Mt. Everest (8,848m). The Nepal Himalaya boasts more than a thousand peaks rising above 6,000m and innumerable 5,000m and 4,000m hills stretching from east to west. More than 300 peaks in Nepal are open for mountaineering expeditions. Thousands of climbers visit Nepal every year to conquer the soaring heights above 6,000m and inscribe their name in the glorious mountain history. 

Peak Climbing in Nepal is an excellent introduction to the world of mountaineering. From novice climbers to seasoned mountaineers, Nepal has a peak for all levels of climbers. Officially, Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has classified climbing peaks into TREKKING PEAKS and EXPEDITION PEAKS. Trekking peaks are considered moderately easy and require little to no technical climbing experience. Expedition peaks, on the other hand, require technical climbing skills and are considerably challenging. 

An interesting fact to note that the tallest peaks in the seven continents are no higher than an average Nepalese hill – for example, Australia's Mount Kosciuszko (2,228m/7,310ft) and Antarctica's Mount Vinson (4,897m/16,067ft). The world's tallest peak Mt. Everest (8,848m), locally known as Sagarmatha and Chomolungma, rise high in the Khumbu or Everest region of Nepal. Every year, in this region, the Everest Base Camp (EBC) trail receives the highest number of trekkers in Nepal. The Everest Base Camp trek is the popular adventure in the world and has been listed as one of the Top Ten Treks/Hikes in the World by Lonely Planet, National Geographic, BBC Travel, CNN Travel, etc. 

Admittedly, Nepal offers a plethora of opportunities for mountaineering and climbing. You can climb more than a dozen mountains in the Himalayas of Nepal. However, the peaks above 6,500m fall under the regulation of the Ministry of Tourism. Likewise, Nepal Mountaineering Association is responsible for mountains ranging from 5,800m to 6,584m. If you are an experienced climber, you can scale 8,000m peaks, and if you want to plunge into the world of mountaineering, you can choose peaks above 6,000m.

In Nepal Mountains, Everest, Annapurna, and Langtang regions are popular for peak climbing. Third Rock Adventures offers more than 15 itineraries for peak climb in these three different regions. Mera Peak and Island Peak are the two famous trekking peaks in Nepal and popular among novice climbers. Similarly, if you are experienced climbers, then you can opt for moderate to difficult and difficult to challenging graded peaks. The high mountains such as Mount Everest, Lhotse, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu grab the attention of most experienced climbers.
