Kyajo Ri Peak is one of the best trekking peaks in Nepal and is the perfect peak if you wish to scale a more technical peak in the Everest region. It gives a taste of alpine-style expedition in the Himalayas. The peak situated between Gokyo valley and Thame is 6,186m/20,296ft in height. It is a semi-technical peak that recently opened for trekking in 2002; thus, making it a relatively new route. The expedition offers incredible views of towering mountains, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Pumori, etc. In addition, Kyajo Ri Peak Climbing gives you the firsthand experience of the vibrant mountain culture of the Everest region.
After reaching the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu, you will be utilizing a day preparing for the trip. Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and trek past Phakding to the popular Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar. Acclimatize for a day at Namche Bazaar and visit Everest View Hotel for the astounding views of the Himalayas, including Everest. During the trek, you will be making several acclimatization stops.
Trek through rhododendron forest to Mende, followed by a hike on an ascending trail to Kyajo RI Base Camp. Spend a day acclimatizing at the base camp, where you will be doing pre-climb training with your guide. Then, trek on a trail over grassy spur and boulders and make your way through the steep headwalls on your way to Camp I near Kyajo Ri Glacier. Then, go on an acclimatizing trek to Camp II and trek back to Camp I. An expedition to Camp II is technical and will be climbing on a slope of 55 degrees. Also, you will be using mountaineering gears like fixed ropes and crampons.
On the summit day, you will be taking the regular climbing route through the southwest ridge. In this challenging and exciting alpine climb, you will be climbing on steep, rugged terrain and using ice and rock climbing and crampon skills, among others. After maneuvering the small section of rock covered in rock and ice, you will reach the narrow wedge of the snow to the summit. Stand on the apex of Kyajo Ri Peak and bask in the soul-stirring views of the Himalayan panorama. Soak into the incredible view before descending to Camp II. Then, retrace your steps back to Kyajo Ri Base Camp and trek back to Lukla via Namche Bazaar. Further, take a domestic flight back to Kathmandu, followed by an international flight back home with everlasting memories.

The astounding view of the Himalayan range will greet you as you near Kathmandu. A representative from Third Rock Adventures will greet you at Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to your hotel. Check into the hotel and take some rest. If you wish you can also stroll in the streets of Thamel, which is famous as a tourist hub. The lively place of Thamel is filled with hotels, cafes, restaurants, clothing stores, trekking and mountaineering gear shops, and others.

Today you will be meeting your guide, who will brief you about your trip. You will get to know about the nature of the expedition, gear, everyday progress during the trek, and the trek route. Listen to him carefully and ask questions if you have any. Ask your guide to go through your gear and equipment if you have bought any. If you missed out on any trekking equipment or gear for the Kyajo Ri Peak climb, you could easily buy or rent in Thamel. If there is some spare time, you can explore the city or do any other activity of your choice.

Take an exciting flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. Enjoy the astounding views of the snow-clad mountains before landing at the Tenzing Hillary Airport. The Sherpa settlement of Lukla is the gateway to Everest treks. Meet your other trekking crew members waiting for you at Lukla. After your final packing and arrangement, you will be heading towards Phakding.
Walk on a descending stone pathway towards Phakding, a small Sherpa village in the lap of Dudh Koshi Valley. En route, you will see mani stones with mantras and also get a sneak peek of Khumbila, a holy peak worshipped by Sherpas. The holy Khumbila remains one of the unclimbed peaks in Nepal. Upon crossing a metal suspension bridge, you will reach the riverside village of Phakding. After freshening up in your teahouse, you can either take a rest or choose to explore the beautiful village.

Take a scenic hike through a forested trail along the Dudh Koshi River towards Namche Bazaar. Today you will be crossing five suspension bridges, including the popular Hilary Bridge. Also, you will be trekking past many Sherpa settlements. Hike through the pine forest on your way to Monjo. Moreover, you need permits to enter Sagarmatha National Park, where registration before heading any further is required. Walk further on the path lined with trees like pine, fir, and juniper. Enjoy the stunning view of mount Thamserku and savor the first glimpse of Mount Everest over the Lhotse and Nuptse ridge. A final hike on an ascending path will lead you to Namche Bazaar, the popular Sherpa town. The lovely town of Namche Bazaar is carved like a bowl on the mountainside overlooking a stunning mountain view.

You will be spending a day acclimatizing at the bustling town of Namche Bazaar. Your body requires to get acclimatized to the thin air of higher altitude, making acclimatization necessary. The Sherpa town is the economic center of the Everest region. It is filled with restaurants, cafes, bakeries, shops and has ATM too. You can choose to do a bunch of activities on this day and make the most of it.
Wake up early and hike up to Sagarmatha National Park to catch a mesmerizing sunrise over the snow-clad mountains, including Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. Moreover, go on a hike up to the Everest View Hotel overlooking the astounding views of the Himalayas. Bask in the panoramic view of mountains, including Everest and the neighboring mountains, before retracing your steps back to Namche Bazaar. If you fancy, you can trek to Khumjung village and pay a visit to the Khumjung Monastery. The monastery houses the scalp of the abominable snowman, Yeti. Also, visit the first school of the region, Hillary School, founded by Sir Edmund Hilary.

After having your breakfast, trek toward the North-west along the Nangpo Drangpo Valley or Bhote Khosi Valley. The valley once fell along the popular trade route to Tibet. Enjoy a scenic walk with an astounding view of mount Kongde Ri and the tumbling waterfall. Hike through rhododendron forest and keep an eye for the Lophophorus or Impeyan pheasant. Lophophorus is the national bird of Nepal, and in Nepalese, it’s called dapfe. A trek past Thamo takes you to the picturesque village of Thame, situated in the lap of colossal snowcapped mountains. A short walk on an ascending trail takes you to Mende. Also, hike to one of the oldest monasteries in the vicinity featuring a noteworthy main temple.

Today you will be walking to Kyajo Ri Base Camp. Trek past Mani trails and walk on a faint yak trail or narrow path before entering the isolated broad valley situated south of Kyajo Ri, Kyajo Drangka. Savor the views of snowy mountains, including Thamserku, Kusum Kangaru, Khumbila, Pachharmo, and Kwande. Upon hiking for few hours on an ascending trail you will reach the summer yak pasture. Kyajo Ri Base Camp is situated in a flat area between a small river on one side and a rocky mountain on the other.
Overnight in Kyajo Ri Base Camp.
Today you will be spending the day acclimatizing in Kyajo Ri Base Camp just a day before your summit day. Soak into the awe-inspiring mountain views from the base camp until your crew makes necessary arrangements and checks your climbing gear. Further, go on an acclimatizing hike up to Camp I and return. The day brings you a step closer to climbing the peak. Moreover, you will be attending pre-climb training with your guide and will get to know about dos and don’ts during the climb. The climbing guide will demonstrate how to fix the rope, show climbing techniques, and use other gears like ice axe, harness, ascender, crampons, and others.
Overnight in Kyajo RI Base Camp
After yesterday's pre-climb session, you will be ascending to Camp I from Kyajo Ri Base Camp today. You will be climbing on a path with grassy spur and boulders. A trek further takes you towards a rocky part with boulders and skid pebbles. Make your way through two steep headwalls which guard the access to Camp I near the Kyajo Glacier. Bask in the majestic views of Kyajo Ri peak and glacial lakes. The camp will be set on with good mountain views and easy access to water flowing from a frozen lake located at the foot of the glacier.
Overnight in Camp I.
Spend another day acclimatizing at Camp I before climbing up higher in altitude. Acclimatizing is one of the important aspects of a successful summit. Moreover, go on an acclimatizing hike up to Camp II and return to Camp I.
Overnight in Camp I.
Today you will be doing some technical climbing as Camp II is more technical than Camp I. You will be ascending on a mixed-faced sloped which tilt up to 55 degrees and maneuvering over rocks and glaciers. You will also need fixed ropes and crampons. Since Camp II lies close to the glacier, you will get ample area for camping, and your crew will set up your camp close to the glacier lake. Thus, you will get an abundance of sunlight on a good weather day. Moreover, you can observe the climbing route you will be ascending the next day from Camp II. Your crew will begin making necessary preparation for the summit the next day.
Overnight in Camp II.
Wake up early in the morning for the summit day that you have been eagerly waiting for. It is best to submit before noon as the strong wind after midday can create an obstacle to summit the peak. Your trekking guide will be leading; so, pay attention to their instruction and guidance.
After having a light breakfast, you will start ascending through the rocky section with a huge boulder. A climb further will take you to a part of a glacier beyond which the climb turns pretty hard. You will be maneuvering the steep slope and climbing on ice and snow towards the Southwest Ridge. Make your way through the small section of rock by climbing on snow and ice to the summit. The summit of the Kyajo Ri Peak is a narrow wedge of snow and the top of the peak will reward you with the stunning view of high mountains including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, Baruntse, and others. After soaking into the awe-inspiring mountain view return back to Camp II.
Overnight in Camp II.
After having breakfast, you will be retracing your steps back to Kyajo Ri Base Camp and will be celebrating the success of your climb. The trek back will be relatively easier as you will be familiar with the trail. However, you need to be cautious while trekking on a descending trail. Upon reaching the base camp you can either relax after a long and tiring climb or you can choose to explore the vicinity.
Overnight in Kyajo Ri Base Camp.
Today you will be retracing your steps back to Namche Bazaar. You will be walking on an easy trail and will be descending in most of your trek. Leave the alpine vegetation and trek past the subtropical forested region filled with rhododendron trees. When trekking in the spring season, the rhododendron blooms make the trail colorful and one of the spring trek's main attractions.
Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
A trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla marks the end of your trek. Walk on a descending trail and hike through dense forest with rhododendron trees. Cross the bridge over Dudh Koshi River and continue your trek to Monjo. Finish some official formalities at the Sagarmatha National Park’s check post in Monjo before moving ahead. Trek further to Phakding and walk on an easy trail marked with Mani stones and prayer flags to Lukla. Upon reaching Lukla relax, share your experiences and celebrate the success of the summit with your crew members.

Today you will be taking an early morning flight to Kathmandu from Lukla. After landing in Kathmandu, you will be driving back to your hotel. You can indulge in any activity of your choice. You might want to relax after a tiring peak climbing in Nepal, or you might want to do some souvenir shopping before leaving the country. You also have the option of sightseeing to the UNESCO-listed World Heritage sites.

Today you will be leaving Nepal and flying back to your home with wonderful memories for a lifetime.
