In as little as three days, the trek traverses to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11,284 ft) then flies off to the mountains for a stop at the maximum altitude of 5,364m/17,594ft at Everest Base Camp. The stunning views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and other peaks, along with an introduction of the Sherpa villages, are the main high point of the trek.
The trip starts at Kathmandu city after arrival from Tribhuvan International Airport. The afternoon can be utilized by taking a cultural tour. Either explore the historically significant Kathmandu Durbar Square or visit the world-famous Swayabhunath Stupa. The second day initiates with a flight to Lukla’s Tenzing Hillary Airport. After landing, the trek starts to Phakding village in the Dudh Koshi river valley.
Third day’s trek heads to Namche Bazaar. The trek begins from Sagarmatha National Park via the Monjo village checkpoint leading the trail to Jorsale village, Topo Danda then Namche settlement. The afternoon and evening are spent exploring the market, monastery, and nearby areas.
On the fourth day, a helicopter flight to Everest Base Camp from Namche Bazaar is taken while flying close to the highest mountains in the world. After a brief stop at the Base Camp for exploration, the helicopter flight heads back to Kathmandu city. Engage in souvenir shopping, and enjoy the night away in the town. The fifth day marks the trip's ending as we head to the international airport for a homeward return.
Fly into the capital city, Kathmandu, with a scenic view of the high Himalayas and green hills as you land at the airport. After fulfilling the customs, head to the terminal, where Third Rock Adventures’ representative will welcome you. You will be transferred to your hotel in the tourist hub of the city, Thamel.
After settling in, you can opt to relax at your hotel or can explore what the mythical city has to offer. If you are drawn by history, you can visit the age-old Kathmandu Durbar Square in the city, also called Freak street or Basantapur. There you can explore the narrow alleyways sprouting with temples, local pubs, and Shah dynasty Palace, which has now been turned into a museum. Alternatively, if you are more spiritual, you can head to the Swayambhunath stupa located atop a hill in the city's west. While the stupa itself is mesmerizing, you will most certainly enjoy the views of the sunset and the wide-angle view of the city.
In the evening, enjoy your first authentic Nepali food in any of the varied restaurants and pubs located there.
Overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu.
Early in the morning, you will be woken up with some delicious, fulfilling breakfast. On this day, you will be taking a flight to Lukla in the Khumbu region. The 35 minutes flight engulfs you with amazement as you get the bird’s eye view of the rivers, forests, hills, and eventually some of the tallest mountains in the world. Landing at Tenzing Hillary Airport is one of the most adventurous experiences.
Upon landing, you will begin your short trek towards Phakding village. The snowy terrain is very different from Kathmandu, so the experience is distinct. On the way, you will pass by Chaurikhara village and head alongside the Dudh Koshi River. You will come across an unclimbed sacred peak named Khumbila that is worshiped by the ethnic Sherpa community.
After a few steps along the stone-paved road, you will reach Phakding village, largely inhabited by the Sherpa community. The cold mountain wind blowing on your face while walking to the village decorated beautifully with prayer flags is a surreal feeling. Unpack your belongings, get settled, and enjoy some hot butter tea with the locals.
Overnight stay in Phakding Village.
You will trek to the awaited highlight of the entire trek; Namche Bazaar. The initial leg of the trek takes you to a steady and steep inclination. Cross the Dudh Koshi river, passing a suspension bridge into thick pine and rhododendron-clad forest. The green trail leads to Monjo village. A little further from there, you will cross the Hillary Suspension Bridge to the Monjo checkpoint, the gate to Sagarmatha National Park. Your guide will get all the documents and essentials ready.
Walking ahead, you will see the first glimpse of Mt. Everest, which is a wonderful sight to sore eyes. With newly lit enthusiasm, you will head to Jorsale village and make a stop for some much-needed lunch. You’ll get to observe pine tree plantations and honeycombs on the way. After lunch, take a steep climb to the hilltop of Tope Danda, which offers views of the Namche settlement below. A short while from there will lead you to Namche Bazaar, which is completely different from the quiet villages you came across the past day.
Namche is lit up in the evening and offers an array of basic to standard facilities like ATMs, bakery, coffee shops, and even clothing stores. Also, the Khumbu region's hub is the starting and ending point of many treks and expeditions in the region. You will come across many trekkers who spend their night here. The Saturday market sees a turnout of both the Tibetan Yak caravans and Hindu traders selling their products from across towns and villages. You can head on to Namche Monastery and enjoy the serenity there while spinning prayer wheels with the view of Kongde Ri (6,187m). Mt. Everest looks gleamingly beautiful as the sun comes down. You can interact with the locals and other trekkers in the evening while enjoying local dishes in tea houses and cafes.
